Sherman Townsend INNOCENT of a crime he spent 10 years in prison for. Released on October 2, 2007 after the true perpetrator comes forward. Learn More.

In recent years, over 200 wrongfully convicted people have been freed from prison after new evidence established that they were actually innocent.

In many of these cases, DNA testing has conclusively proved their innocence. Of the already exonerated, at least 10 were on death row. No one knows how many innocent people have already been executed. Whether you are for or against the death penalty, no one can argue that an innocent person should be executed.

The Innocence Project of Minnesota (IPMN), part of the National Innocence Network, provides investigative and legal assistance to inmates with provable claims that they are actually innocent of the crimes they are imprisoned for. IPMN also works to raise public awareness about the prevalence and causes of wrongful conviction as well as promotes substantive legal reforms to prevent future wrongful convictions.
