Submitting
a Case
To have a case considered, inmates
must contact the Innocence Project of Minnesota in writing.
Because of the volume of requests, IPMN is unable to respond
to requests received by e-mail or telephone. Letters requesting
assistance must provide information on the nature of the claim
of innocence, the place of conviction, and length of sentence
remaining to be served. If the request satisfies preliminary
screening criteria, a detailed questionnaire will be sent.
Letters should be addressed to:
Innocence Project of Minnesota
1536 Hewitt Avenue
St. Paul, MN 55104
When can I expect to hear back from
Innocence Project of Minnesota?
Upon receipt of the completed questionnaire,
IPMN will send a letter to the inmate indicating that the
application has been received. Members from Innocence Project
of Minnesota's Board of Directors then review the questionnaire
and evaluate the presence and probability of actual innocence.
The process includes a review of the inmate application and
a records examination. Because of the large volume of applications
to IPMN, it may take many months before staff are able to
make a decision. After completing its review, the IPMN will
notify the inmate in writing of the decision to accept or
reject the case.
